Who He Says He Is: Thoughts About Matthew 16:13-14

“Now when Jesus came into the district of Caesarea Philippi, He began asking His disciples, saying, ‘Who do people say that the Son of Man is? And they said, ‘Some say John the Baptist, and others say Elijah, but still others Jeremiah, or one of the prophets.'”

Matthew 16:13-14

[Note: These are the words of God whispered to my heart after I read the above Scripture. I first prayed James 1:21, asking God to help me put aside all filthiness in the moral cesspool of this fallen world and all evil influence and humbly receive His Word, as His Spirit implants it into my mind to transform the way I think.]

“From where did you get your opinion of Me? Everyone has one, and most of them are wrong. Most people view Me with twisted and distorted lies. Rarely does anyone stop what they are doing, bow down before Me, and ask Me to reveal Myself to them. This is because they think they already know. Therefore, they live accordingly. They live the lies they have been taught by the enemy.

“Who do you say that I am? Ask yourself this question. Parents pass on their opinion of Me to their children. Some do it deliberately and intentionally, as they have been taught. Some do it without realizing. What are you passing on to your children and grandchildren? From where did you get your information? Did it come from a book, a preacher, or someone else’s opinion?

“My desire is to reveal to you just Who I Am. Let me fill you with a desire to guard what I say, treasure it, savor it, and pass this on to the next generation. Change nothing about it. Don’t use it to form your own opinion. Learn to share exactly Who I Am with others. Be changed by Who I Am, be empowered by Who I Am. Let Me change others through you.”

[Note: This is my response to God’s personal words whispered to my heart.]

“Lord God, do fill me with a greater desire for Your Word in Scripture and spoken to me by Your Spirit. Change my opinion of who You are as needed. Reveal Your identity to me through Your grace and Your Word. Open my eyes and fill my heart, soul, and spirit with who You are and be glorified. You are the great I Am!”
